SEISO Young Artist winners named

SEISO Conductor Robert McConnell, following the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra’s Marilyn Minford McCoid Young Artist Competition Dec. 1 in Mount Pleasant, announced the winners.

Violinist Sarah McConnell won first place. McConnell, daughter of Julie Peshkin and Robert McConnell performed the 1st movement from Max Bruch’s Concerto No. 1 in g minor, Op 26.

Violinist Richard Su, who performed the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto No. 3 in G Major, won second place. Su, a Burlington High School junior is the son of Charlie and Shihehun Su.

Both first and second place winners will receive scholarship awards, which are provided by the Morton and Virginia Schmucker Memorial Trust.

Third place honors were earned by Ottumwa pianist Nathan Payne, who performed the 3rd movement from Mozart’s Concerto No. 9 in E-flat Major. The Ottumwa High School senior is the son of Craig and Desirae Payne.
