Self-guided renewable energy tour set Saturday

Mar 04, 2013

Alliant Energy’s Hometown Rewards program in Fairfield is offering residents the opportunity to get up close and personal with local renewable energy projects Saturday.

Fairfield’s Second Saturday’s Workshop series will host an introductory panel discussion about residential renewable energy projects happening in Fairfield. Immediately following the 30-minute panel, workshop participants will receive a map directing them to examples of solar hot water, solar electric and integrated renewable energy projects in Fairfield.

The Second Saturday’s Workshop event will be 1-1:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library and then will move on-location until 3 p.m. The tour includes a home with residential solar electric, a home with solar hot-water, a home in Abundance Eco-Village and an off-grid home.

Anyone who is exploring a renewable energy project or is curious about what they look like in action is welcome to attend this free panel discussion and self-guided tour.

The Saturday workshop series are a partnership between the city of Fairfield, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Alliant Energy, KRUU, KMCD-Classic 96, Hy-Vee, COSC and the Fairfield Public Library.

The workshops provide practical information about how residents of Fairfield can change their behaviors to save energy and money, conserve resources and reduce their carbon footprint. If the community meets the goals of the program, Alliant Energy will help fund the installation of solar panels on the Fairfield Public Library.
