Sheriff Report

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports the following:

 

Thursday

1:16 p.m. — A maroon 2000 Dodge van driven by Amber Leigh Barber, 25, of Haviland, Kansas, struck a deer in the westbound lane in the 2600 block of Highway 34. Damage to the van was estimated at $4,000. The van was towed from the accident site.

10:05 p.m. — A red Ford Focus driven by January N. Wisniewski struck a deer in the westbound lane near mile marker 212 on Highway 34. She lost control of the vehicle, and it struck the guard rail on the south side of the road. The driver was not injured. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000. It was towed from the accident site. Damage to the guard rail was estimated at $3,000. The Iowa Department of Transportation was contacted about loose gravel on the road, although Mike’s Towing personnel cleared most of it away.
