Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident reported at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday. Myron Rudolph Pilger, 77, of Hedrick, was driving a 2007 International 9400i owned by Adrian Trucking Inc. of Richland, east on Highway 34 about a half-mile northeast of Ash Avenue at Batavia. Pilger was overtaking a 2006 Pontiac G6, driven by Tori Lee Essary, 20, of Fairfield, also traveling east on Highway 34. Pilger failed to clear the Pontiac, crossed the line and struck the Pontiac, which had gone off to the shoulder to avoid the semi. The Pontiac spun around, went off into the south ditch, where it came to rest. The Pontiac had an estimated $6,000 in damages. The International had an estimated $700 in damages. Pilger was cited for unsafe passing.
