Shooting in Washington remains under investigation

WASHINGTON, Iowa (GTNS) – Little information was available regarding a shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Washington less than a block from the Washington County Courthouse, nor is the condition of the victim being released.

According to a news release from the Washington County Communications Center, at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, the center received reports of a shooting at 106 South B Ave. in Washington. Emergency personnel from the Washington Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s office and Washington County Ambulance responded to the residence.

One subject was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Washington Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation. The condition of the victim is not being released at this time.

At the scene Wednesday evening, Washington Police Chief Greg Goodman declined to comment on the incident except to say that he does not believe there is any danger to the public. The news release said that no further information will be released until after the investigation is completed.
