‘Smart Choice: Health Insurance’ program set Nov. 30

Nov 18, 2016

AMES – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a free online workshop to help Iowans better understand their options when choosing health insurance.

“Smart Choice: Health Insurance” will be offered online 6-8 p.m. Nov. 30.

To register for the free online class, contact an ISU Extension and Outreach county office or register online by noon Nov. 30 at http://tinyurl.com/pvmceb7.

ISU Extension and Outreach offers “Smart Choice: Health Insurance” to help individuals improve their understanding of health insurance terms and coverage, and learn how to use personal finance and health information to select a policy.

Open enrollment season is underway for many health insurance plans, said Joyce Lash, a human sciences specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.

“One option is to simply re-enroll in the same plan you chose for 2016,” said Lash, who specializes in family finance.

“However, that can be a risky strategy. Insurance plans can change coverage terms from year to year, and consumer health-care needs can change, too. Instead, try to match your needs for the next 12 months to a policy that will provide adequate coverage at the most affordable cost,” Lash said.
