Softball Briefs: Cardinal, Van Buren fall

Cardinal falls 12-5

ELDON — Lindsay Moore smacked a two-run homer and doubled Wednesday, but the Cardinal softball team couldn’t hold off Keokuk in a 12-5 loss in Eldon.

Moore finished 3-for-4 at the plate, and teammates Lindsey Davis and Carlie Bennett both went 2-for-4 as the visiting Chiefs scored a combined 10 runs in the final two innings.

On the mound for Cardinal was Lexi Fullenkamp, who struck out two in the seven-inning complete game.

The 8-8 Comets visit Danville today.


Van Buren hangs with West Burlington

WEST BURLINGTON — Alex Yacko gave up just four hits Tuesday as top-ranked West Burlington/Notre Dame nipped Van Buren 4-1.

Van Buren received two hits from senior Jansen Heckenberg, and Payten Hughes and Caitlyn Millard supplied one base knock each. Kadie Meek scored the Warriors’ one run in the top of the first as West Burlington scored one run in each of the first three innings.

Alicia Fitzsimmons pitched all six innings for Van Buren, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. She fanned two.

The 4-6 Warriors visit Harmony Friday.
