Southeast Iowa under freezing rain advisory

Dec 20, 2013

DES MOINES (AP) — Freezing drizzle and icy road conditions across much of Iowa have led scores of schools to delay the start of classes today by two hours.

The National Weather Service has issued freezing rain advisories in the southeastern two-thirds of Iowa, and more wintery weather is expected to roll into the state over the weekend.

Highs on Friday are not expected to rise out of the teens in northwest Iowa, or break the freezing mark for the rest of the state.

The weather service says Saturday will bring a chance of light freezing rain early, then snow by Saturday night. Snow is expected to end on Sunday, but residents should expect areas of blowing snow during the day, making travel difficult.
