Special schedule for events Friday

By Staci Ann Wilson Wright | Jul 25, 2013

Fairfield residents should note the following information regarding services on Friday when RAGBRAI is in town:

There will be several road closings. A complete list of road closings appeared in the Ledger on July 19 and July 24.

One change is that Grimes Avenue will be closed at 6 a.m. Friday rather than at 8 a.m. as previously reported.

Please heed the advice of local law enforcement to avoid these roads on Friday.

If possible, residents are asked to walk or ride bikes to places they must go while RAGBRAI riders are here.

They also have the option of using the shuttle route system that has been established for this event.

Shuttle services will start running at 9 a.m. with one bus per route; that number will increase throughout the day.

Buses will continue to run until shortly after midnight.

A volunteer will be on each bus if possible to assist riders to their destination.

No alcohol will be allowed on the buses.

Buses will only be allowed to stop at designated shuttle stops. The east route shuttle stops are VFW (downtown), the Jefferson County Health Center, if needed, Washington Elementary, D Street and Wilson Boulevard (Wilson Park), Park Street and Fillmore Avenue (Lamson Woods), Park Street and Broadway Avenue (Chautauqua Park), and the Fairfield High School.

The west route shuttle stops are Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Office (downtown), the Jefferson County Health Center, if needed, Fillmore Avenue and Second Street (O.B. Nelson Park), Fillmore Avenue and Sixth Street (Fairfield Middle School and Pence Elementary), Roosevelt Community Recreation Center, and the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

In addition to road closings, Fairfield residents should be aware that all city parks, the dog park, Frisbee golf facilities at Chautauqua Park and all park restrooms will be closed Thursday evening and will not reopen until sometime on Saturday.

The Fairfield Community School District will not be serving free lunch for children at Pence Elementary School on Friday.

Waste Management will be collecting trash as normally scheduled on Friday.

The Fairfield Senior Citizen Center will be serving meals-on-wheels Friday and they will serve a meal on site, as well.
