Fairfield JV wins two over Demons

The Fairfield JV baseball team rebounded from two loses to Davenport Assumption with a doubleheader sweep over Washington.

The Trojans lost to Davenport Assumption 18-1 and 10-0 on Friday.

Josh Osby went 1-2 with a double and a RBI in Fairfield’s game one 5-0 victory over Washington. Brayden Miller had two hits in the game.

Cade Lisk pitched four innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out five batters.

Fairfield won the second game 5-4 in eight innings. Osby smacked two more hits and had the game winning RBI. Trenton Hanen went 2-2 with a double. Graham Kuehl and Brian Buch both had a double and a RBI.


Pekin softball on two game streak

Sophomore Sloan Reighard went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to help the Pekin softball team win its second game this week.

The Panthers (12-9) won on the road at IMS 11-1. Nikole Arendt went 3-3 with a double and two runs scored. Emily Bemis drove in two runs and Kaylee Linder scored twice.

Courtney Comstock struck out four during her five innings on the pitcher’s mound. She allowed three hits, one walk and just one earned run.

The Panthers will host Class 2A No. 1 Highland (Riverside) Thursday.


Warriors outscore Notre Dame

The Van Buren baseball team managed to outscore Burlington Notre Dame 12-9 Tuesday in Keosauqua.

Van Buren scored five runs in the first inning, but allowed Notre Dame to crawl back into the game with a five-run fourth inning. Down 9-8 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors sealed the win by scoring four more times.

Austin Bartholomew drove in three runs to lead the Warriors. Noah Witten and Robby Laughlin both finished with two RBIs. Tyson Sprouse went 3-4 with a RBI.

Class 1A No. 4 Van Buren will play a doubleheader Thursday against Lisbon in Iowa City.


Nine-run inning pushes Pekin over IMS

The Pekin High School baseball team scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat IMS 11-2 Tuesday.

Jaydan Nicholson went 2-3 and hit a three-run homer. Cole Reighard went 2-4 at the plate. Zach Sloan pitched a complete game and struck out 12 batters.

The Panthers (10-4) will host Highland on Thursday.


Cardinal now 9-9 after home loss

The Cardinal baseball team defeated Harmony 8-1 Monday.

Quinn Honomichl pitched a complete game for the Comets. He allowed just five hits, one walk and just one earned run and struck out five.

Chase Courtney went 5-5 with a run scored and three RBIs. Cody Streeby went 3-5 with a double. Kyle Kent and Brennon Elder both smacked two hits.

The Comets hosted West Burlington and were defeated 12-0 Tuesday. Cardinal (9-9) is scheduled to host Moravia tonight.


Comets fall to West Burlington

The Cardinal softball team lost at West Burlington 5-1 Tuesday.

Lindsey Davis had a stellar game for the Comets, going 4-4 at the plate with the team’s only RBI. Lexi Fullenkamp went 2-3. Cassidy McMartin, Jessie McElderry and Danae Moses each got a hit as well.

Cardinal (12-8) will host Central Lee Thursday.
