Fairfield JV sweeps Keokuk

The Fairfield JV baseball team swept Keokuk in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

The Trojans took game one 10-8. Brandon Smithburg went 3-5 with a double and two RBIs. Josh Osby, Tristan Ledger and Cade Lisk each drove in two runs.

Fairfield then dominated game two 13-3. Miller and Osby both smacked two hits. Lisk and Brian Buch drove in two runs.

Miller pitched four innings in the second game and allowed just three earned runs. Four hits and one walk were mustered against him, but he struck out two Chiefs.


Panthers beat Louisa-Muscatine

The Pekin High School softball team took its regular season finale 5-1 Thursday at Louisa-Muscatine.

The Panthers were powered by senior catcher Tiana Slaney, who went 4-4 in the game with a home run, a double and two runs scored.

Cassidy Tolle finished with three hits. Sloan Reigard drove in two runs.

Ashlyn Zook pitched a complete game and allowed five hits, one walk and zero earned runs. Zook, still a freshman, finished the regular season with a 1.40 ERA after pitching 110 innings.

Pekin (16-11) will play Van Buren in the first round of the Class 2A Region 5 playoffs Tuesday in Packwood.


Pekin baseball crushes WACO

A ninth-straight win was earned by the Pekin baseball team Thursday after defeating WACO 18-2.

Senior pitcher Zach Sloan was on the mound for the length of the game (four innings) and also nailed three hits at the plate. Sloan finished with a triple and two RBIs.

Ryan Swanson, Keaton Winn and Jaydan Nicholson each scored three times. Winn, Cade Millikin and Cole Reighard each had two hits.

Pekin (15-4) will travel to Louisa-Muscatine tonight for a doubleheader. The Falcons (21-3) have not lost a SEISC-North matchup this season.


Warriors win close game at Danville

Van Buren won a tight contest in Danville by the score of 4-0 Thursday.

This makes the Warriors’ baseball squad 26-2 on the season. Van Buren led 2-0 before adding on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Junior Garrett Saunders pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out nine batters. Saunders also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.

Tyson Sprouse had a single and two RBIs. Brandon Plecker drove in a run and stole a base.

The Warriors are scheduled to host Albia tonight.


Cardinal falls at Holy Trinity

The Cardinal High School baseball team fell at Holy Trinity Catholic 8-3 in Fort Madison Thursday.

The Crusaders scored five runs in the first two innings to take an early lead. The Comets would score three runs in the fourth inning only to see Holy Trinity tack on single runs in each of the next three innings.

Tyler Albert smacked a double and drove in two runs. Brandon Potts, Conner McElderry and Adam Giltner each scored a run.

Cardinal (10-13) is scheduled to play at Davis County tonight and will host Van Buren on Wednesday.


Danville defeats Van Buren 2-1

The Van Buren softball team lost a close contest 2-1 Thursday to Danville.

Caitlyn Millard drove in a run and Taylor Murguia had two hits.

The Warriors (5-17) will play at Pekin to open the regional playoffs Tuesday.
