Start to Farm Group meeting

WASHINGTON, Iowa – Washington County Extension and Outreach will be hosting a Start to Farm Group meeting from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. June 29 at Michael Vittetoe’s farm, near Washington.

ISU Ag Engineer Matt Helmers will kick the meeting off by discussing the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy and how cover crops fit into the strategy.

A field visit at Vittetoe’s farm will provide an opportunity for discussion on what farmers in southeast Iowa are trying to do with cover crops on their farms.

A light meal will be provided.

The meeting is open to all beginning farmers from southeast Iowa. The event is free, but sign up with the Washington County Extension office at 319-653-4811 or nadrian@iastate.edu by noon on June 29.

In the event of rain, the meeting will be moved to the Southeast Research Farm near Crawfordsville.
