Statewide program graduates local leader

DES MOINES —The Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation announces Seth Miller, Cambridge Investment Research, Inc., Fairfield was one of the 40 members of the 2012-13 Leadership Iowa class. The class graduation was held recently in Okoboji at the Annual ABI Taking Care of Business Conference.

Leadership Iowa, a program of the ABI Foundation for 31 years, is a statewide, premier issues-awareness program. The program is designed to instill passion in current and emerging leaders while fostering a high level of civic engagement. The 2012-13 class attended an integrated series of monthly two-day sessions from October through June at various locations throughout Iowa. They learned from experts about manufacturing, education, government, economic development and entrepreneurship, agriculture and biotechnology, community visioning and more.

“ABI and the ABI Foundation proudly present the Leadership Iowa program because each of the past 31 years we’ve identified many of our state’s best leaders and helped to equip them with the knowledge and tools to make a difference in our state,” said Michael Ralston, president, Iowa Association of Business and Industry. Ralston is a graduate of the 1990-91 Leadership Iowa class.

Since its inception in 1982, Leadership Iowa has graduated more than 1,000 individuals from both the private and public sector, representing every geographical region of Iowa. Each year, approximately 40 talented individuals are selected. Each year’s applicant pool is unique with selection based on achieving the best balance of qualified candidates for a particular year.

The ABI Foundation’s mission is to build partnerships between business, education and communities. A nonprofit organization created by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry, the foundation also provides resources and forums that develop professional and personal responsibility and leadership for communities and the state.
