Stephen Steely in concert Sunday on Barhydt organ

May 01, 2017

Quad Cities’ organist Stephen A. Steely will present an organ concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

Steely serves as minister of music at the historic First Lutheran Church in Moline, Illinois.  He is also pastoral musician at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Illinois, and Temple Emanuel, Davenport.

His studies in organ, church music, and music history were done at Hastings College, Southern Methodist University and the University of Iowa. Throughout his career, he has served churches of many denominations in Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, Minnesota and Illinois. He has taught on the faculties of Eastfield College, St. John’s University, the College of St. Benedict, and Marycrest College. He serves as area representative for the Allen Organ Company, working though Allen Organs of Iowa in Bettendorf.

Steely’s program is divided into two sections. The first section includes works originally written for the orchestra, which have been transcribed to be played on the organ. The second section will include compositions written specifically for the organ.

“The concert will have music to please everyone’s tastes,” said Steely. “I’ll play music that is soft, loud, slow, fast, and everything in between.”

The Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series is a partnership between the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and the Fairfield Concert Association. Fairfield Concert Association members are admitted with proof of membership.

Steely’s concert is the final concert of the 2016-17 Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series.

Tickets to watch organist Stephen Steely are $15 for adults and $5 for youth and students and are available at the convention center’s ticket office, 472-2787 and online at www.FairfieldACC.com.
