The Stockport Library Board will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the library for a cleaning day.


The Stockport Public Library will be open at 3 p.m. Saturday for the Stockport High School alumni to come in and see the yearbooks, trophies, sports pictures, country school pictures and to reminisce with classmates who come for the Stockport Alumni Banquet this weekend.


Volunteers are needed to help raise and lower the Avenue of Flags on Flag Day, June 14, weather permitting. Volunteers are asked to meet at 7 a.m. in front of city hall to help raise the flags and at 4 p.m. to help lower the flags.

The flags only fly four times per year: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day.


An Old-Tyme Music Jam is planned from 1:30-4 p.m. June 16 in the Heritage Estates Community Room.

The public is invited to bring instruments and play acoustical music or just come and enjoy the fellowship and the music.

A free-will offering will be collected.

Gerri Lyon, president of the Stockport American Legion Auxiliary, thanks the Stockport community for its generosity during the recent “Shower for Veterans” campaign.

The items have been delivered to the VA Hospital in Iowa City.


Jeremy and Kali Gorsuch, children of Rochelle Heisel of Stockport, participated in the Hershey Track Meet May 21 in Fairfield. Kali was in four events, while Jeremy entered two: the 800-meter run, in which he placed first; and the mile run, in which he placed second.

By winning the 800-meter run, Jeremy has advanced to compete at the Hershey State Meet June 15 in Marshalltown. Jeremy is proud and excited to be representing the youth athletes in this area and is looking forward to participating, but needs help with expenses to help defray the cost of transit and lodging. The Birmingham Homecoming set for this weekend will include a petting zoo Saturday in City Park.

A book sale at the Birmingham Library also is planned. Books can be purchased for a donation.


The Birmingham Lions Club will have its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Lions Building.

Morrie and Hugh Shaw are the committee.


The Over 50 and Fabulous Red Hat Ladies will meet for an 11:30 a.m. lunch June 11 at Cup and Cakes in Keosauqua.

The hostesses are Carolyn Edwards and Marilyn Boley.


The Presbyterian Ladies of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church will meet at 7 p.m. June 12.

The roll call response will be a Bible verse about “service.”

Judy Williams will have the devotions and program. Melinda Stockwell will be hostess.

The Synod Gathering will be June 12-15 at Storm Lake.


The Birmingham United Methodist Church board will meet at 7 p.m. June 12 at the church.
