Stockport vacation Bible school started Monday and will run through Friday. It is held from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Heritage Events Center for children in prekindergarten through fifth grade.


The last summer reading program will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stockport Public Library. The children will read about pirates, make eye patches and wear pirate bandanas on a scavenger hunt around the city of Stockport to find clues that will lead them to “DIG” for the treasures that they are seeking.


A new movie added to the Stockport Public Library DVD collection is a Veggie Tales movie: “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.”


The Stockport City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Stockport City Hall. Anyone wishing to address the city council should contact the city clerk by Friday to be put on the agenda.


According to the Van Buren Community School District website, www.van-buren.k12.ia.us, registration for the 2013-14 school year will be held from 1-8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Aug. 14 at both the elementary center in Douds and the middle and high school center in Keosauqua.

A supply list for elementary students is on the website.

Starting Monday, school supplies will be given to children of Stockport from 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays at the Stockport Public Library.

The first day of school in the Van Buren Community School District is Aug. 20.
