Tenco exceeds capital campaign goal

Nov 13, 2017

OTTUMWA — Tenco Foundation has exceeded its goal to raise $1.2 million to enhance services for the people with disabilities that it serves.

In October 2015, Tenco Capital Campaign chairman Kent Walker announced Tenco was undertaking a capital campaign to raise $1.2 million to enhance services. Thursday, he announced the goal was exceeded.

Outcomes include:

• Construction of a hydroponic greenhouse that provides paid vocational opportunities for people with disabilities, while providing a source of locally grown pesticide-free produce for the region.

• Purchase of a wheelchair-accessible van so Tenco clients have access to services and activities in the community.

• Purchase of a tractor and farm equipment to garden the land adjacent to the greenhouse.

• Installation of a solar system that will provide 100 percent of the energy needs of the greenhouse.

• Enhancement of the Tenco vehicle fleet by replacing five vehicles.

• Establishment of a Tenco Endow Iowa account with a gift of $100,000; Iowa residents who make future contributions to the account will receive a 25 percent Iowa tax credit in addition to the traditional tax advantages of a charitable gift.
