DES MOINES — Fairfield’s McKenzie McClure, Cierra Bielinski, Alexis Ring and Sydney Howard entered the Drake Relays’ 4x100 field with the 79th fastest time in the state, but they zoomed up the ranks Friday in front of a record session crowd of 12,378.

Running on lane one of the blue oval, the Fairfield foursome won their heat and placed 39th overall for a season-best time of 51.62 seconds. The Trojan relay improved upon its fastest time by nearly two seconds and was the sixth fastest Class 3A team Friday.

“For what it’s worth, I thought they ran really well. I think they were happy with what they did,” Fairfield head coach Ron Hunerdosse said. “It was the first time [McClure or Ring] ran at Drake, and it was a nice final opportunity for Cierra. For Sydney, it was maybe a little bit of redemption after she missed out on the 100 field.”

The four Trojans will be back with the rest of their team today to host the Brookhart-Crew Relays.
