Trojan boys' soccer team falls to host Keokuk

Apr 24, 2017

The Fairfield Trojan boys’ soccer team fell to host Keokuk on Thursday, 8-3. Fairfield fell to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in Southeast Conference play. Keokuk is 5-3, 4-0.

Fairfield’s goals were scored by Jordan Guezimane, Brayden Miller and Nicholas Frisbie. Miller and Chaysten Titus each had an assist.

“We picked the wrong game to have an off night,” said Trojan head coach Felisto Guezimane. “It was the third game of the week for us, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for how flat we played. Keokuk was fresh and ready for us. It was their only game of the week and it showed.

“They scored early in the first half, but we tied minutes later. Then we allowed four more goals in the first half including an own goal. The signs were all there that it was going to be a very long night for us. Brayden scored a beautiful goal that would have put us at 3-2, but the referee changed the call and disallowed the goal.

“We tried to come back in the second half with a different attitude and more energy, but we just couldn’t match Keokuk’s intensity. It would be easier to cope with one or two players having a bad night, but 75 percent of the team just didn’t show up.”

“It’s not easy to come back from a 5-1 deficit. We traded goals in the second half and that’s not good enough to get back into the game. The closest we got was 6-3. Definitely a better second-half performance, but too late.

“Now we have to regroup and show some character to bounce back from this defeat. We’re a very good team and capable of putting this behind us and moving forward.”
