Trojan eighth-graders drop Monday home tilt

Feb 13, 2013

Fairfield Middle School’s eighth-grade boys coughed up 24 turnovers en route to a 47-18 loss to Mount Pleasant on Monday.

Cam Baumann led the Trojans with 11 points and eight boards, while Josh Osby contributed five points.

“The story of this one was we got out-worked. We got out-rebounded 31-9 and had 24 turnovers, which will tell you the story,” said Fairfield coach Tony Vandegriff.

Brayden Miller and Jacob Schillerstrom also scored three points apiece in the ‘B’ game, a 25-14 loss for Fairfield.

The boys return to action Thursday at Burlington Aldo Leopold.

“We have three winnable games left. We have to bring it for 24 minutes and have to rebound and take care of the ball to get it done. I think we can do it,” Vandegriff added.

‘B’ team wins one

Fairfield’s eighth-grade boys won the ‘B’ game yet lost the ‘A’ contest Friday vs. Fort Madison.

The Trojan ‘A’ team was edged by Fort Madison 37-36 prior to the ‘B’ team pulling off a 19-15 win in Fairfield.

In ‘A’ action, Cam Baumann and Josh Osby both finished just short of recording double-doubles. Baumann had 15 points and nine boards, while Osby scored 11 points to go with another nine rebounds.

Fairfield’s Brian Buch scored eight and Denver Schultz had two points, three assists and three steals.

“I thought we came out with as good of intensity as we have had all year,” said coach Tony Vandegriff. “We just didn’t sustain it for all 24 minutes, but overall a better performance than we have been showing.”

In the ‘B’ game, Cam Burke and Jacob Schillerstrom scored six points each to lead Fairfield to the win.
