Trojan girls’ soccer falls to Keokuk on road

The Fairfield girls’ soccer team lost 5-1 Thursday night at Keokuk, with the Chiefs knocking in an own goal for the lone Trojan score.

Although they lost by four goals, the Trojans only recorded one fewer shot-on-goal then the Chiefs with the total 12-11 in favor of Keokuk.

Senior forward Kristin Burnstedt took shots in the fifth and eighth minutes with senior keeper Kelsey Hollander making a save for the Trojans 7:40 into the game, with the outlet pass making it to Burnstedt who made her way to the opposite goal for her second shot attempt of the game.

Senior forward Alie Kensett took her first of two shot attempts on the night 14:02 into the game with Burnstedt getting blocked as well just :11 later.

The next six shots were taken by Keokuk who scored four times with goals in the 16th, 17th, 24th and 30th minutes and Hollander making stops in the 30th and 40th minutes.

Junior Bryanna Popejoy took the last shot of the half, getting stopped by the Chiefs keeper with just 5:05 remaining in the first 45-minute half.

Hollander made three saves in the first 7:02 of the second half before allowing the fifth and final Keokuk score in the 58th minute of play.

Popejoy and Kensett each had another shot attempt stopped and sophomore right wing/midfielder Emily McAvan and senior center/midfielder Ella Pollet also failed to find the back of the net on the teams’ final four attempts on the Chief keeper.

Next for the Trojans is a home match today at Dexter at 4:30 p.m.
