Trojan girls tennis ready for SEC tourny

By Justin Webster | May 07, 2018

The Fairfield girl’s tennis team notched another Southeast Conference win Thursday night when they defeated Keokuk 7-2 on the road.

Trojan junior Anatta Charoenkul extended her unbeaten singles’ games streak to 64 and her overall record to 8-0 with an 8-0 win over Jakala Hall in the No. 1 matchup.

“Anatta works hard to earn these games,” said Head Coach Heidi Grunwald. “She has the smarts to hit the ball to the spots where the other players cannot get to them and she likes to move them around the court.”

Freshman Yana Gaskell is also undefeated with an 11-0 record with three of the wins coming in 8-0 fashion versus No.1 competition while the other eight were against No.2 players with Gaskell dominating games won 64-3 in those conquests.

Cami Schaefer also won convincingly in the No.3 slot with an 8-2 win over the Chiefs Maddi Miller.

Anna Beasley and Nellie Higdon also won in the No.5 and No.6 matches, respectively, with the pair each winning their contests 8-0.

Charoenkul was joined by doubles partner Hermela Gebremariam, with the duo falling 9-8 to Hall and Daniela Lozano.

Gaskell/Schaefer won their doubles match 8-2 over Miller and Kaleigh Hall and Beasley/Higdon joined forces for an 8-0 win to go with their singles match shutouts of Kara Kavanagh and Susannah Olsen, respectively.

The 8-1 Trojans host the SEC tournament today at the MS courts.
