Allison Rebling allowed just one run on two hits over four frames and the Trojans scored 10 runs in the second inning for a 13-1 mercy-shortened first-round victory over Mt. Pleasant in Class 4A Region 5 play Thursday night.

Shay Drish led the team with three hits and three RBI that came as a result of a three-run shot in that everlong second inning.

“I took a strike and then chased a pitch over my head,” said Shay who regrouped and then, “The next one was right down the middle.”

Also hitting safely multiple times was Hannah Simpson who went 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI and Ellie Baker who was 2-3 with two runs scored.

Along with Shay and Baker scoring twice for the Trojans, Taylor Myers and Brynley Allison also crossed the plate two times as well.

“Everything we did went right and everything they did went wrong,” suggested Fairfield Head Coach Bob Bradfield.

“Our hitters really concentrated and got good pitches and we put a bunch of hits together in the second which is nice to do for Allison [Rebling],” added Bradfield.

Saturday at 7 p.m.

Oskaloosa will host the Trojans in the regional semifinals with Newton simultaneously hosting Washington out west on Interstate 80.

The two winners will play on Tuesday at the home of the highest remaining seed which would be either the Demons or the Cardinals.

“Even though the batting averages are kind of low at the bottom of our order,” said Bradfield, “they are very capable of hitting. We know we’re the underdog and it’s going to be a challenge to score but their pitcher is good, not unhittable and if we swing at the right pitches, which is obviously key in the sport in general, they may take us lightly which I’m hoping they do.”
