Trojan softball loses two at Eddyville

By Justin Webster | May 25, 2018

The Trojan softball team traveled to Eddyville for a doubleheader last night that ended with 3-1 and 3-2 losses to the still undefeated Rockets.

Game one

Sophomore Allison Rebling took the loss after allowing three runs on just four hits over six innings while striking out 10 and walking zero batters.

The Trojans had the same amount of hits as E-B-F, four, however, leadoff hitter Shaylin Drish was the only baserunner to score when she crossed home plate in the top of the fourth when her sister Ashtyn drove her in.

Along with the Drish sisters, sophomore centerfielder Lily Hoskins and eighth grader Hannah Simpson also had hits in the loss. Ashtyn also had the teams’ lone stolen base.

Game two

Again, Fairfield never led after surrendering runs in the second and fourth innings before tying it with scores of their own in the top of the fifth and sixth innings.

Freshman Bailey Hird took the loss after the go-ahead run scored in the home half of the sixth, giving her three runs allowed on nine hits, two of the runs were earned, and one strikeout to go with a single walk.

The Trojan bats were a little more alive in game two with Shay Drish threading three hits through the Rocket defense in her four at-bats that yielded one RBI, while Rebling went 1-4 at Designated Hitter and first basemen Grace Stever was 2-3.

Stever and Hoskins scored the two runs for Fairfield who is now 0-4 on the season with home doubleheaders versus Sigourney, Washington and Fort Madison coming up on May 29, May 31 and June 4, respectively.
