Sunday night the Fairfield Trojan volleyball program celebrated its freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams with a banquet in their honor.

Coaches Ron and Diana Drish and Vicki Rebling hosted the event in the high school commons with food, videos, memories shared and awards handed out.

Coach Ron Drish leads the freshman team and talked about his responsibility to teach the girls the game as it’s expected to be played all the way up to the top level.

JV coach Vicki Rebling, who played for the Trojans during her high school days, echoed the sentiment about the programs coaches responsibility to make sure the Fairfield strategy is being implemented from the top down.

The Fairfield freshmen struggled a bit early in the season, but Coach Ron said that he was proud of his team’s growth during 2017 and respected their ability to come together as a team later in the year.

Members of the team include: Erica Bachman; Phoebe Fiedler; Bailey Hird; Olivia Jones; Lauren Kraemer; Sophie Miller; Claire Pettit; Emma Sanner; Abby Schaefer; McKayla Taylor and Sophie Wallerich.

Allison’s teammates are: Shaylin Drish; Carly Ferrel; Lily Hoskins; Lindy Kaska; Callie Ledger; Gracee Lisk; Olivia McClaran; Chloe Stever; Grace Stever and Rachel Thomas.

The team finished the year 18-9 overall and 8-0 in conference play, losing only one game versus SEC competition.

Fairfield’s varsity volleyball team did very well in 2017, finishing with an overall record of 25-9, pushing Fort Madison to the brink in their final match of the season.

Coach Diana Drish says her team left everything they had on the floor in Fort Madison and that’s all she can ask for from her squad.

Coach Drish will lose three key seniors from her team that went 6-2 in SEC play this season, but will return four juniors honored by the conference as either first or second-team all-conference selections.
