Trojans down Demons Tuesday

The Fairfield Trojans hosted the Washington Demons in a conference showdown Tuesday.

The Trojans took command of the match early, winning the first two sets going away, 25-13 and 25-9. Washington kept it close in the third set, but Fairfield ultimately prevailed 26-24.

Kara Jeffrey and Alison Godwin did much of the heavy lifting on the Trojans’ front line. Jeffrey went 17-18 in hitting with 10 kills. Godwin went 20-22 with nine kills. Julia Fritz had a good game, too, adding seven kills on 9-11 hitting. Ashtyn Drish finished with four kills.

Danae Drish was the top server, going 17-18 with an ace. Ashtyn Drish served a perfect 10-10, including an ace. Olivia Roberts hit all five of her serves over the net, one of which went for an ace.

Ashtyn Drish led the team in assists with 14. Jeffrey had 10, and Danae contributed seven. Danae was the dig-leader with 20. Ashtyn had nine, and Jillian Dunlap and Jeffrey tied with six.

Godwin blocked a Demon spike on three occasions. Jeffrey did so twice.

On serve receive, Danae posted a 94 percent success rate. Bryanna Popejoy returned 80 percent.

“The team had a great night tonight,” said Trojan head coach Diana Drish.

The coach said it was nice to see several girls come off the bench and contribute to the win.


Trojan JV down Washington

Earlier that night, Fairfield’s junior varsity team defeated the Demons in three sets. Fairfield took the first set 25-15, lost the second 25-16 and captured the third 15-9.

Olivia Roberts went 16-17 in serves with an ace. Lily Hoskins was 12-13 with an ace. Shaylin Drish went 7-9 with an ace.

Washington struggled with Grace Stever’s presence at the net, as the sophomore pounded down eight kills on 16-20 hitting. Shaylin Drish went 16-19 in hitting with one kill. Chloe Stever had three kills on 11-12 hitting.

Hoskins was the assist leader with eight. Roberts had seven. Gracee Lisk had 10 digs. Shaylin Drish had seven.

Alexis Jones led in blocks with three. Rachel Thomas had two.

In serve receive, Jones went 3-3 while Allison Rebling went 3-4.


Fairfield freshmen beat Washington

The Trojan freshmen defeated Washington in two sets by identical scores of 25-19. Phoebe Fiedler had two aces. Bailey Hird and Sophie Wallerich each had one.

Olivia Jones and Abby Schaefer tied for the lead in kills with five. Erika Bochman and Fiedler each had two.

Wallerich led the way in assists with 12. Lauren Kraemer led in digs with 14. Jones dug out eight balls and Bochman dug five.

Fiedler had two blocks and Jones had one.

Kraemer was the leader in serve receive, going 13-16. Jones went 4-4.
