The Fairfield girls’ soccer team lost 2-1 Tuesday night at home versus Ottumwa.

The Trojans fell behind 2-0 in the first half before Ella Pollet assisted Emily McAvan who scored Fairfield’s lone goal midway through the second half. Senior Kelsey Hollander had nine saves at keeper.

Head Coach Brittany Winslow said, “We had some great individual performances, and moving forward we will work on playing cohesively as a team.”

The first year skipper added that the season-opening loss won’t get them down. They feel they had a good game and know what they need to work on. The team will host Washington Thursday and Mt. Pleasant Friday.

The JV squad lost 3-2 to the Bulldogs in game two. Hannah Lyons scored for the Trojans and Ottumwa scored an own goal that went on the Fairfield total.

Trisha Westphal had five saves in goal.
