Trojans open regional volleyball Monday

Oct 19, 2012

All eyes on the Fairfield volleyball team are focused on the state tournament.

To get close, they’ll have to first get past Knoxville (14-25) Monday and then Mount Pleasant (15-15) on Thursday.

Though one of Region 6’s byes went to Mount Pleasant instead of the Southeast Conference champs, the good news for Trojan fans is they’ll have homefield advantage all the way to the substate round. The Trojans haven’t lost on their own court all season and have a 10-0 record when playing there.

If the Trojans manage to win their first two matches, ninth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier would likely await them in the substate round. Xavier has battled out to a 24-11 record in the Mississippi Valley Conference, which includes the Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Dubuque schools.
