Trojans take 2nd in Ottumwa, 3rd at Wellman

The Fairfield Trojan girls’ track team finished second in Ottumwa’s Don Newell Classic on Tuesday with 140 points.

Iowa City won the meet (194), Ottumwa finished third (134) and Burlington fourth (80).

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Sam Fritz took the gold medal in the 800 (2:36.42) and teammate Ashlyn Elmore took silver (2:43.71).

Trojan Malory Jones won a silver medal in the 400 (1:05.71) and high jump (4-8). Fairfield’s Ashley Bloomquist finished third in the 1,500 (5:20.46).

Also for Fairfield, Kristen Daugherty took third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:15.09). In the long jump, Amber Burroughs took third (14-3½). In the discus, Kaylee Watson finished third (98-9) and Julia Fritz fourth (94-5).

On April 13, Fairfield won the eight-team Rocket Relays in Eddyville.

Fairfield had 168 points, runner-up Washington had 138 points. They were followed by North Mahaska (75.5), Edyville-Blakesburg-Freemont (51.5), Wayne (50), Central Lee (45), Centerville (38) and Chariton (20).

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Sam Fritz took silver in the 400 (64.63) and Maggie Ferrel took silver in the 800 (2:37.83) and the 3,000 (11:59.19).

Bloomquist won the 1,500 (5:22.58), Carin Corrick won silver in the 100-meter hurdles (18.14) and Aluna Olaniyi took silver in the 400-meter hurdles (72.45).

Fairfield took gold in the 4x400 (4:24.17). Sam Fritz led off, Olaniyi was second, Jones third and Kara Jeffrey anchored.

Danae Drish, Sam Fritz, Carly Ferrel and Bloomquist took gold in the 4x800 (10:38.71).

Bloomquist anchored the gold-medal team in the distance medley (4:38.33). Jillian Dunlap led off, Julia Fritz was second and Jones third.

In the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle, Olaniyi, Sarah Swanson, Corrick and Kristen Daugherty took gold (73.30).

Trojan Jada Lippincott took gold in the shot put (33-4).

On Thursday, Fairfield placed third in the Hawk Relays in Wellman.

Solon won the meet with 130 points, Pekin was runner-up (96). The Trojans had 92 points and were followed by Mid-Prairie (87.5), West Branch (66.5), Wilton (37), HLV (25), West Liberty (23), Montezuma (20) and Mount Vernon (10).

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Alexis Jones, Fritz, Jeffrey and Bloomquist took gold in the distance medley (4:41.44) and Malory Jones took first place in the 400 (1:04.40).
