Trojans take second

The Fairfield Trojan girls’ squad finished runner-up to host Mt. Pleasant on Thursday in the Southeast Conference Track and Field Meet.

Mt. Pleasant had 134 points, Fairfield 85, Washington 80, Fort Madison 48 and Keokuk 45.

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Aluna Olaniyi took gold in the 400 hurdles (1:07.77) and anchored the 4x400 first-place team (4:15.60). Sam Fritz led off, Kara Jeffrey followed and Malory Jones ran third.

Fritz, Danae Drish, Ashlyn Elmore and Maggie Ferrel took silver in the 4x800 (10:17.17), Carin Corrick, Olaniyi, Sarah Swanson and Kristen Daugherty finished second in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle (1:12.27), and Jillian Dunlap, Alexis Jones, Jeffrey and Ashley Bloomquist took silver in the distance medley (4:34.60).

Bloomquist finished second in the 1,500 (5:05.40), Jada Lippincott took silver in the shot put (34-10.5) and Malory Jones finished second in the high jump (4-08).

The Trojan boys’ team finished third (56 points), Washington was runner-up (77) and Mt. Pleasant earned the championship (183). Keokuk (38) and Washington (33) finished behind Fairfield.

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Michael Fritz won gold in the discus (143 feet) and Trenton Hanen took silver in the shot put (42-07).

Also for Fairfield, Kosta Papazoglou, Alex Sisomphane, Hunter Drish and Leone Gichure-Marira took second in the 800 sprint medley (1:42.60), and Mark Diers, Darren Roberts, Max Sullivan and Drew Martin earned silver in the 4x800 (9:10.94).

Drish, Sullivan, Connor Ryan and Papazoglou finished second in the 4x200 (1:39.90).
