Two crashes reported

Two-vehicle accident on Highway 34

A two-vehicle accident was reported at 4 p.m. July 29 in the east bound lane of Highway 34 near exit 212. A vehicle driven by Alexis Overstreet, 19, Bonaparte, was traveling in the right hand lane. Madison Martin, 16, of Germantown Hills, Illinois, was driving a car in the left hand lane.

Overstreet began to make a lane change into the left hand lane, striking Martin’s vehicle and causing it to spin and come to rest in the median. Overstreet was cited for passing on the wrong side.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. No injuries were reported. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.


Two-vehicle accident on Gear Avenue

A two-vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Gear and Kelp avenues at 7:10 p.m. July 27. Allison Nicholson, 22, of Richland, was headed north on Kelp Avenue and failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Grace Shead, 67, of Fairfield, headed west on Gear Avenue. The front end of Shead’s car struck the passenger side of Nicholson’s car.

Nicholson was cited for failing to yield. Air bags deployed on both vehicles. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Neither required medical transportation.
