By Justin Webster | Sep 29, 2017

FARMINGTON – The Van Buren cross country teams hosted Cardinal and Central Lee Tuesday in the Indian Lake Invite.

The Warriors took the boys title 24-31 over Central Lee with the Comets failing to score. Jonah Heckenberg, 17:00, and Clay Neeley, 17:20, finished 1-2. John Orndoff, Issac Caston and Jaeden Gerig were the other three scorers for Van Buren coming in 6th, 7th, and 8th places with times of 18:00, 19:06, and 19:07, respectively.

Non-scoring times included: Jimmy Greer of Cardinal in 19:42, Gunner Zugg of Cardinal in 19:43, Caleb Stoltz of VB in 19:45, Quentin Story of VB in 19:52. Wyatt Gatton of Cardinal finished in 20:49. Bryson Starnes and Bryant Gerig of Van Buren came in 20:51 and 20:52, respectively.

Griffen Sackman of Cardinal finished in 21:30. Levi DeShane of VB in 21:35, Chris Miller of VB in 25:06, and Logan Orndoff of VB in 32:54.

The Warrior girls also took first with 27 points over Central Lee’s 29 thanks to Audrey Smith who ran the course quickest in 20:30. Fifth place went to Codi Welch of VB with a time of 21:47, followed by Anna Neeley at 22:20 and Ceyda Nazli in 23:06.

The most influential result may have been Julia Bruckman’s eighth place finish in 25:09, just one second ahead of Central Lee’s Kassidy Haley.

If that finish is reversed, the Warriors would have had to share their title. Sarah Davis and Erin Tedrow finished out the field in 10th and 13th with times of 25:50 and 30:58, respectively.
