Van Buren went 3-1 and finished in third place Monday night at WACO, while Pekin went 2-2 and finished fourth.

West Burlington is ranked No. 15 in Class 2A and defeated the host Chargers for first place.

Matt Zietler and crew defeated Centerville 2-1 with the games scoring: 21-7, 13-21 and 15-7; swept Sigourney 2-0 with 21-5 and 21-16 victories, and then lost to West Burlington in the semifinals, 17-21 and 19-21.

“We’re actually a little ahead of where I thought we’d be,” admitted the Warrior skipper who added, “We just have to run with the good teams like West Burlington from the start, instead of falling behind by 10 points and having to go on a run just to catch up.”

Zietler said that West Burlington is a team that will win 30 games, but luckily for Van Buren they won’t see each other in the playoffs.

Isabella Manning had 44 digs in the four games while Logan Schmidt and Madison Bartholomew each had 32 assists.

Van Buren rebounded for a 2-0 win over Pekin in the third-place match with the games going 25-11 and 25-14 in favor of the Warriors.

Pekin defeated Wapello 2-1 in a come-from-behind victory after losing game one 14-21 and then rebounded with 21-9 and 15-13 advantages in games two and three, respectively. The Panthers also defeated Columbus Junction 21-10 and 21-5 before falling to the eventual runner-up WACO, 0-2 in the semifinals and then 0-2 again in the third-place match versus Van Buren.
