Vehicle chase ends in crash

A Kirksville, Missouri man is in jail after attempting to elude a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy early Saturday morning on 241st Street in Libertyville.

Regan Lynn Channel, 39, led Sheriff’s Deputy Kent Lox on a high-speed chase after he failed to stop at a stop sign.

“Our deputy knew that there was a report of a stolen white [Chevrolet] Lumina, and so he pursued the vehicle after it took off at a high rate of speed after running a stop sign,” said Lt.  Jerry Marcellus. “The stolen vehicle report came out of the Fairfield Police Department.”

Marcellus said Channel ran the stop sign at the intersection of Hughes Street and Washington Avenue. He then headed east on 241st Street, and Lox followed him for around one mile before Channel lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Channel complained of injuries at the scene, and he was transported by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center.

“He is in jail right now,” Marcellus said.

Deputies arrested Channel for eluding a law enforcement vehicle, which is a serious misdemeanor; operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent,  failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to maintain control and for operation of a motor vehicle with an expired license. He was also arrested on a Fairfield Police Department warrant.

Arrested subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
