Vehicle crashes into utility pole

A single vehicle accident Wednesday in Fairfield sent one person to the hospital.

The accident occurred at 5:17 p.m. when a vehicle struck a utility pole on West Burlington near the intersection with Ninth Street.

Two people were in the vehicle, and one was taken by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center. Fairfield Police Department Lt. Joel Smith said the Fairfield Fire Department had to use tools to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The police department was assisted at the scene by the fire department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Ambulance. A representative from Alliant Energy came to inspect the utility pole.
