Vehicular crashes reported

Several motor vehicle accidents have been reported to the Jefferson County Law Center in the past week.


Motorcycle driver airlifted to Iowa City

A motorcyclist was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after suffering serious injuries Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., David Bitting of New London was traveling west on Highway 78 1 mile west of the Coppock Bridge when his motorcycle dropped off onto the shoulder. Bitting attempted to get back on the roadway and lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to skid across the highway.


Motorist drives into guard rail

A motorist was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle when he struck a guard rail and no passing zone sign July 28 in the 1700 block of Pleasant Plain Road.

Gary Ray Fox was issued the citation for an incident that occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. The sheriff’s report described Fox’s condition as “asleep/fatigued” at the time. His pickup sustained $6,500 in damages. The cable and sign sustained $2,500 in damages.
