Velma ‘Lucille’ Godwin — 1932-2017

Velma “Lucille” Pencil Giberson Godwin, 84, of Fairfield, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Park-view Care Center in Fairfield.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Greg Friedrich officiating. Burial will be at Spencer Cemetery in Stockport.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. Godwin was born April 29, 1932, in rural Packwood to Oscar H. and Velma L. Wood Pencil. She married William Dwane Giberson July 15, 1950, in Fairfield. He died Dec. 24, 1995. She married Rex Godwin April 25, 1997.

Mrs. Godwin lived in the Fairfield area all her life. Her pastimes included working in her flower or vegetable garden, playing Mrs. Claus, square dancing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: husband, Rex Godwin of Fairfield; daughter, Cathy Giberson of Fairfield; stepchildren, Ron (Donita) Godwin of Casa Grande, Arizona, Don (Ann) Godwin of Fairfield, Ben (Lynn) Godwin of Libertyville, Amy Kessel of Keosauqua, and John (Sarah) Godwin of Libertyville; and stepson-in-law, Shannon (Konia) Fries of Murdock, Nebraska; 18 stepgrandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; and brothers, Keith Pencil of Libertyville and Larry Pencil of Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Dwane Giberson; and stepdaughter, Angie Fries.
