Veterans in Agriculture workshop planned at MUM

Sep 29, 2017

A regenerative Organic Agriculture Workshop by Veterans in Agriculture is planned Oct. 6-7 at Maharishi University of Management’s Petra Stanley Farm Center north of Fairfield.

A meet and greet is planned from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the AmericInn; Mayor Ed Malloy is scheduled to meet the veterans. At 7 p.m., they are invited to attend the Fairfield First Fridays event on and near the Fairfield square.

The workshop runs 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Oct. 7, starting with breakfast on the farm. Two morning sessions will provide information on planting layouts, composting, weed/insect control as well as information on how M.U.M. uses cost effective methods for composting, irrigation systems, cold storage facility, as well as a cleaning and processing center. After lunch, learn about M.U.M. programs and hear from other farmer veterans who are in the produce business and ask questions of the staff from the morning sessions.

Organic certification information will be available.

Preregistration is required. A $10 fee will be charged to help offset costs.

Limited scholarships for veterans are available to help offset travel expenses.

The last day to register is today. To register or for information, email info@veteransinagriculture.org. or visit the website www.eventbrite.com/e/organic-agriculture-workshop-tickets-37388335518.
