Visitors bureau in search of best sandwiches in Fairfield

By Andy Hallman | Oct 08, 2013

The Fairfield Iowa Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking for the meanest sandwich in town.

The convention and visitors bureau is asking Fairfield restaurants to submit sandwiches to be tasted by a panel of judges. Each restaurant can enter two sandwiches in the contest, which is at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The promotion is known as “Wiches of Fairfield,” designed to feature the large number and wide variety of restaurants in the city.

As assistant director of the bureau Terry Baker explained: “Fairfield is already known for having more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. Now we want to let the world know some details about those restaurants.”

Baker said the “Wiches of Fairfield” is a great opportunity to collect the best sandwiches in town under one roof.

Judges will rank the sandwiches based on taste and visual appearance. The only limitation is that the sandwich must be produced by a local restaurant and appear on its current menu. Baker said that while this is a contest, it is more of a promotional effort designed to feature all the restaurants that enter. The bureau also plans to hold an event in the near future in which residents will be able to sample the top sandwiches in town.

For additional information about the promotion, contact Baker at the convention and visitors bureau at 472-2828.
