Vote for Travis Harris Aug. 8

By Mary LaFrancis | Jul 13, 2017

To the editor:

On Aug. 8, there will be a special election to fill the vacant post in Iowa House District 82 left by the recent passing of Rep. Curt Hanson.

Travis Harris of Davis County is running for this seat which represents Van Buren, Davis and most of Jefferson County including Fairfield.

There are serious issues on the state and local level that need addressing. Top on the list are the matters of taxation and spending with existing restrictions and mandates affecting our schools and education, school closings, grade-alike decisions and lack of oversight, roads and infrastructure, major mental health and healthcare needs, urban vs. rural representation, and senior citizen issues, to name a few few.

Mr. Harris sees many things that can be done. His maturity, background and education, training and experience, knowledge, intelligence and creativity, concerns and commitment, personality and strength of character and values as a family and business man, Davis County board of education member for 9 years including board president make him a must win for this important position!

Travis Harris is native born and a third generation Iowa family farmer. He is also a financial, economics, and business strategies planner, and believer in Second Amendment rights and the rights of every precious life.

Mr. Harris is committed to “represent and fight for the people not party. He will work for better opportunities for small town values, farms, working families, education and schools, way-of-life, and businesses to succeed for this generation and generations to come” as he has done for the past 18 years.

Come and meet Travis Harris in person at a “meet and greet” with food at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the McElhinny House north of the courthouse and east of the Sondheim Center in downtown Fairfield.

There will be a notice in the paper when early voting is open. Absentee ballots may be requested from the auditor’s office in the courthouse about July 28 and early voting there. You may also register to vote on election day at your voting place which you can find out by calling the auditor’s office at 472-2840. Bring with you two items of identification such as your driver’s license and a bill with your name and address when voting.

In this special election voter turnout is expected to be light so every vote is that much more important! Remember to vote for Travis Harris for Iowa House District 82 by or on Aug. 8.

God bless America, our great state of Iowa and District 82!
