Jul 31, 2018
PHOTO SUBMITTED The deadline for voting for your favorite Square is 8 p.m. Thursday by texting 641-919-2121 or emailing suzan1252@aol.com. “Life in Technicolor” by Jacqueline Kumer is one of 14 entries.

The Fairfield Art Association announces the public is invited to participate in the final two elements of the “Squares Around the Square” summer art installation. Voting for your favorite Square art piece can easily be done before the winner is announced on Friday at the “Take It to the Canvas” Paint-In event at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. Just text your vote to 641-919-2121 or email to suzan1252@aol.com by 8 p.m. Thursday. Be sure to include the name of the artist or the title of the square. One vote per person.

A silent auction of all 14 Square artwork placed around the downtown square and up Main Street to the convention center, will begin on Friday and continue through Sept. 7. This is a fundraiser for the Fairfield Art Association and the artists will receive 50 percent of the selling price. Minimum bids start at $100 and bid sheets are in the Main Gallery of the convention center. Actual values of the art pieces range from $150-$900.

This year’s theme of square shapes provides a multitude of uses after being purchased, such as a garden art element on the ground or attached to a pole. They can also be used as a mini table or stool inside or out. One entry has been turned into a taller table with artistic legs by David Pattison and can be viewed at the Fairfield Arts Association Sales Gallery.

Artists creating entries for the Squares Around the Square include: Kathy Tollenaere, “Hassockable”; Cheryl Myers, “Splash”; Nancy Huebner, Mary Arnold, Jan Bork, Rhonda Hammes, Dave Dickey and Kella Tschopp “Whimsy on Pointe”; Dana Brekke and Carol Olicker, “Earth, Air, Water, Fire”; Paul Siemsen with Dustin Hanshaw, “En Pointe”; David Pattison, “Cosmic Table” and “Playing with Chopsticks”; Jacqueline Kumer, “Life in Technicolor”; Pamela Lander, “Optic Cube”; Bob Glocke, “Introspection”;, Shelly Urban and Ali Wydopal, “Museum on Display”; Ann Porter, “Cultural Art & Beauty”; Mike Pech, “Butterfly Home”; and Deb Doyle, “Fairyfield.”
