Warblers at Lacey-Keosauqua

KEOSAUQUA — Join birdwatching.com’s Diane Porter and naturalist Therese Cummiskey for a morning of spring birding at 8 a.m. Saturday in Lacey-Keosauqua State Park.

The park is said to be one of the best places in the state to look for migrating warblers. It’s also a great location for tanagers and pileated woodpeckers, added Cummiskey.

Participants should meet at Ely Ford at 8 a.m., and bring binoculars.

The program is free, and no registration is required.

 

Wild Edibles program Saturday

Jefferson County Conservation is bringing in naturalist Kathy Dice for a program about Wild Edibles from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center.

Dice co-owns Red Fern Farms in Wapello and has been a wild edibles enthusiast for more than 35 years. She was recently featured on IPTV’s “Iowa Outdoors” program in the segment “Edible Outdoors.”

An hour of trail time will be followed by a cooking demonstration and then a time for questions. Participants will gain the skills to identify and eat edible weeds from their lawns and gardens.

Space is limited to 30 so preregistration is required The fee is $10 per participant. To register, call Jefferson County Naturalist Therese Cummiskey at 472-4421 or email therese@jeffersoncountyconservation.com.
