Whiskers-growing contest planned

Apr 05, 2013

BONAPARTE — A whiskers-growing contest is planned as part of Bonaparte Main Street’s Civil War Experience scheduled for June 8.

Annette Spencer is organizing the event stressing authenticity and costume. Whiskers should reflect original styles from the Civil War years in the following five categories: Best longest, well groomed, Best Civil War goatee with or without mustache, Best Civil War lamb chops, mutton chops, Best shaggy, badly groomed beard and mustache, and Longest, well groomed handle bar mustache.

Entry is free, with no age limit, but Civil War era authenticity is preferred.

Judging will be at the band shell in Bonaparte’s Historic Riverfront Park to be scheduled in the early afternoon of June 8.

Bonaparte Main Street’s Civil War Experience will commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.
