Why not locally sourced ornaments?

By Dorothy Drees | Nov 22, 2017

To the editor:

I was shocked and dismayed to read in the Nov. 16 Ledger that a $6,000 snowman was purchased from a catalog by the chamber for the downtown holiday display.

Chamber people, what were you thinking?

Fairfield has been working so hard to promote itself as a unique, creative community. Fairfield is home to so many artists who would be thrilled to receive a commission for a new holiday sculpture. It would be added to our growing collection of downtown local art, to be enjoyed by future generations.

And commissioning a local artist would keep the money in the community. (And if you want a second opinion, that snowman is ugly!)

Can you return it? I will not donate to the Tree of Lights fundraiser until I am assured that the next such purchase is locally sourced.
