Williamson to speak on‘The Spirit of Democracy’

Sep 11, 2018

Marianne Williamson, an internationally acclaimed author and lecturer, will speak on “The Spirit of Democracy” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The program, a discussion of American politics and the spiritual renewal of the country, is a free public event, and no tickets are needed.

According to the organizers, often it is crises that open people up to new things, and in a very real way, that’s what is happening in America. As people make their way through a difficult time for democracy, the way is being cleared for new conversations, new options, and new possibilities. As someone who has spent 35 years working in the field of personal transformation, Williamson has seen how the principles of individual change apply to societal change as well. Now more than ever, she feels the articulation and expansion of that conversation is not only valuable, but also necessary, to help people navigate the times in which they live.

To Williamson, the phrase “spirit of democracy” denotes something more than a slogan; it denotes a very real pattern of thoughts and feelings that are necessary to well-being.

“I look forward to the opportunity to speak into a new American listening — one that is ready to look past an old, mechanistic political paradigm and embrace a more forward-thinking, holistic, and deeply democratic frame of mind,” said Williamson. “As Americans, we have some issues to clean up from the past, some new beginnings to co-create in the future, and a new era of citizenship to forge within ourselves.

For the last 35 years, Williamson has been a well-known public voice, having been a guest on television programs such as “Oprah,” “Larry King Live,” “Good Morning America” and “Bill Maher.” Seven of her 12 published books have been New York Times Best Sellers and four of these were No. 1.
